The University of Florida’s J. Crayton Pruitt Family Department of Biomedical Engineering is proud to recognize faculty, staff and students honored through the 2025–2026 Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering Faculty and Staff Excellence Awards.
Among this year’s faculty awardees, several UF BME leaders were recognized for their outstanding contributions across education, mentorship and innovation.
Ana Porras, Ph.D., was named International Educator of the Year, honoring her commitment to global engagement and excellence in education.
Jennifer A. Nichols, Ph.D., received the Doctoral Dissertation Advisor/Mentoring Award in recognition of her exceptional dedication to mentoring doctoral students and supporting their academic and professional growth.
Parisa Rashidi, Ph.D., received the Faculty Award for Excellence in Innovation, reflecting her leadership in advancing cutting-edge research and technology.
In addition, two UF BME faculty members were named UF Research Foundation Professors, a distinction that recognizes a strong record of research and scholarship: Wesley Bolch, Ph.D., and Carlos Rinaldi-Ramos, Ph.D.
The department also celebrates students recognized through the 2025–2026 Attributes of a Gator Engineer Awards, which highlight excellence in key areas of impact:

- Creativity: Seowung Leem
- Leadership: Tran B. Ngo
- Integrity: Julianna Gonzalez and Zahra Mohammadalizadeh
- Service to Global Community: Morgenne Almonte and Wabmui Gachunga
- Community & Inclusion: Adriana Del Pino Herrera
Ava Gueck was also recognized with the Dean Jonathan F.K. Earle Engineering Leadership Award, one of the college’s highest student honors.
These recognitions reflect the strength of UF BME’s community and its continued commitment to excellence in research, education and service.
