The J. Crayton Pruitt Family Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Florida has announced new academic leadership appointments supporting the department’s undergraduate and graduate programs.
Christopher Geiger, Ph.D., has been appointed associate chair for undergraduate studies, while Lee Murfee, Ph.D., will serve as senior associate chair.
Geiger assumes the role following Murfee’s leadership as associate chair for undergraduate studies since 2020. In his new position, Geiger will help lead the department’s undergraduate curriculum, student programs and industry engagement initiatives.
Since joining UF, Geiger has played a key role in the department’s senior design program, ABET accreditation efforts and industry partnerships. He also leads initiatives supporting experiential learning and strengthening connections between students and industry partners. Prior to joining UF, he held multiple academic leadership roles at Florida Gulf Coast University.
“Dr. Geiger has demonstrated exceptional leadership and a deep investment in our undergraduate students and programs,” said Cherie Stabler, Ph.D., professor and chair of the J. Crayton Pruitt Family Department of Biomedical Engineering. “We are excited to see him bring his vision, experience and collaborative leadership to this important role.”
Murfee transitions into the role of senior associate chair after serving as associate chair for undergraduate studies for the past five years. During his tenure, he led efforts to refine and expand the undergraduate curriculum, increase experiential and hands-on learning opportunities, and guide the department through a successful ABET accreditation process.
In his expanded role, Murfee will support strategic initiatives spanning both undergraduate and graduate education, including curriculum optimization, didactic infrastructure and faculty mentorship.
