Mobile Cardiac SPECT system
A recent project, funded by the U.S. Department of Defense, involved the design, fabrication and evaluation of a mobile gamma camera system for cardiac imaging applications. The system is designed to image patients who cannot be readily transported to conventional imaging facilities, for example, patients in an intensive care unit or an emergency room. The figure shown is a photograph of the system in the research lab. The system was evaluated clinically on human subjects undergoing a conventional cardiac imaging procedure. The images in the top row were obtained from a conventional cardiac SPECT system and the images in the bottom row were obtained from the mobile system. The mobile system was capable of diagnosing the cardiac perfusion abnormality present in the conventional images (indicated by arrows in figure).
