Smit Patel and Dr Stabler, in collaboration with Dr Clayton Matthews, recently published their review on designing benchtop platforms for studying type 1 diabetes. The goal of this review was to help facilitate communication between engineers and biologists studying T1D. The paper provides a robust overview of the key features of the islet, as well as current approaches for studying islet physiology and pathophysiology. We also provide our perspective on engineering design parameters for creating benchtop platforms.

Congratulations to Smit on this strong contribution to the field!
