Eiko Alzamora, a Ph.D. student in the J. Crayton Pruitt Family Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Florida, has been selected for the CATT-ADRD Training Program in Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Diseases. Alzamora will begin the two-year fellowship on January 6, 2026, following a highly competitive national selection process.
Under the mentorship of Lakeisha Williams, Ph.D., Alzamora is advancing research that examines how migraine-related vascular stress interacts with genetic risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease to influence brain health. Her work integrates neurodegenerative disease models with migraine-like states to investigate critical changes within the brain’s microvascular network.
Using a longitudinal approach that combines behavioral assessments, molecular analysis, and advanced imaging, Alzamora’s research aims to identify early indicators of disease progression and inform the development of novel diagnostic strategies for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
The CATT-ADRD Training Program equips emerging researchers with interdisciplinary training and mentorship to address complex challenges in neurodegenerative disease research.
