The University of Florida’s J. Crayton Pruitt Family Department of Biomedical Engineering is proud to recognize two faculty members named 2026 University of Florida Research Foundation (UFRF) Professors, an honor that recognizes distinguished research achievement and a strong record of scholarship.
The UFRF Professorship recognizes faculty with a distinguished record of research achievement, based on recent accomplishments including scholarly publications, external funding, honors and innovation within their field.
Wesley Bolch, Ph.D., distinguished professor, and Carlos Rinaldi-Ramos, Ph.D., professor, were selected for this prestigious designation, which highlights faculty whose work is recognized nationally and internationally for its impact and innovation.
Bolch is an internationally recognized leader in radiation dosimetry and the development of advanced computational models to assess radiation dose and associated health risks. His work has led to the creation of anatomically realistic, scalable patient models used globally in medical imaging, nuclear medicine and radiotherapy. He has also made significant contributions to understanding radiation exposure and cancer risk, helping inform both clinical practice and public health guidance.
Rinaldi-Ramos is a leading expert in magnetic nanoparticles and magnetic particle imaging, advancing both the fundamental science and biomedical applications of these technologies. His research has enabled new approaches for tracking cell therapies, improving imaging sensitivity and developing nanoparticle-based therapeutics. Through interdisciplinary collaborations, his work continues to expand the role of these technologies in addressing complex challenges in human health.
