Hands-on learning experiences that prepare you to lead in research, industry, and innovation
At UF BME, learning extends far beyond the classroom. From your first day on campus to graduation, you’ll have opportunities to apply what you learn, develop professional and leadership skills, and make a real impact in the field of biomedical engineering.
Explore the programs and opportunities that help you grow as both an engineer and a Gator.
Student Organizations
Join a community of innovators and collaborators. UF BME student organizations offer hands-on opportunities in biomedical research, outreach, and professional development — helping you build leadership skills while connecting with peers who share your passion for engineering and healthcare.
Learning Assistant (LA) Program
The Learning Assistant Program empowers students to learn by teaching. LAs work alongside faculty to enhance classroom engagement, support peers, and strengthen their own understanding of key concepts. This near-peer model promotes inclusive, research-based learning while developing valuable communication and leadership skills.

Senior Design
Senior Design is the capstone experience for UF BME students — a chance to turn ideas into real biomedical solutions. In collaborative teams, students design, build, and test medical devices or systems that address real-world healthcare challenges. Projects integrate biomechanics, instrumentation, tissue engineering, and more, with emphasis on ethics, safety, intellectual property, and FDA regulations.
