Graduating with Honors

Students pursuing Magna Cum Laude or Summa Cum Laude distinction in Biomedical Engineering should follow the steps below.

Step 1: Review the Engineering Honors GPA requirements

Step 2: Review the BME Honors Thesis Guidelines

This document outlines departmental deadlines, formatting recommendations, and tips for preparing and defending your research.

Step 3: Appoint a Supervisory Committee

Submit the Appointment of Supervisory Committee Form (PDF) to the BME Undergraduate Advising Team at undergrad@bme.ufl.edu no later than the second Friday of classes.

Your committee must include:

  • Three total members
  • Two BME faculty members
  • One external member, who may be an affiliate BME faculty member from another department but not a primary BME faculty member.

Step 4: Complete and Defend Your Thesis

Finish your honors thesis and schedule a final oral examination with your committee.
Submit the signed Final Oral Examination Form to the BME Academic Office (BMS JG-54) at least one week before classes end.

Step 5: Submit Your Thesis

Send an electronic copy of your thesis to undergrad@bme.ufl.edu by the last day of class.
