Dr. Lee Murfee, Professor & Associate Chair for Undergraduate Studies, and Dr. Parisa Rashidi, Professor, UF Research Foundation Professor, and Co-Director of the Intelligent Critical Care Center, have been named 2025 Fellows of the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES).
The BMES Fellow designation is among the Society’s highest honors, recognizing individuals who have made transformative contributions to the field of biomedical engineering and demonstrated exceptional leadership within BMES. Murfee and Rashidi are part of an elite class of inductees who will be recognized at the BMES Annual Meeting in San Diego this October.
Dr. Lee Murfee
Murfee leads the Microvascular Dynamics Laboratory, where his team explores how microvascular networks grow and adapt. By integrating in vivo, in vitro, and computational approaches, his work reveals how processes such as angiogenesis, lymphangiogenesis, and neurogenesis interact across scales. These discoveries are critical for advancing tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, and understanding vascular dysfunction in aging, hypertension, and cancer.
“Our research aims to connect the smallest cellular dynamics to the larger picture of tissue function,” Murfee said. “It’s an honor to have this work recognized by BMES, and I’m grateful to the students, collaborators, and colleagues who make it possible.”
Murfee was selected for his pioneering research and for his leadership and service to the BMES community.
Dr. Parisa Rashidi
Rashidi is the founding co-director of the Intelligent Critical Care Center and directs UF’s Intelligent Health Lab (i-Heal). Her research uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to create intelligent patient monitoring systems. Her lab develops tools that transform intensive care units through real-time autonomous monitoring, while also building wearable and digital technologies that help track cognitive and mental health in outpatient settings.
“The goal of our work is to harness AI to make patient care smarter, safer, and more responsive,” Rashidi said. “Being named a BMES Fellow is a tremendous honor, and it reflects the dedication of my students, collaborators, and colleagues at UF.”
Rashidi was recognized for her groundbreaking contributions to intelligent health systems and her service to BMES.
Congratulations to Dr. Murfee and Dr. Rashidi on this prestigious recognition!
