Congratulations to Dr. Hans van Oostrom who has been selected as the 2014-2015 University Faculty Adviser/Mentor of the Year!
This award recognizes outstanding advisers throughout campus who demonstrate excellence and innovation in advising/mentoring undergraduate students. The award is based on an extensive review of an application packet containing letters of recommendation from past students and his peers, an analysis of the volume of advising and a description of Dr. van Oostrom’s innovations in advising.
Dr. van Oostrom was fundamental to onboarding the initial class of undergraduate students in the department and setting up an advising structure from scratch. The BME undergraduate program, which started in 2012, has quickly grown to 325 students. Dr. van Oostrom has also worked to personalize the advising experience for our students – he seeks to understand their needs and interests, and works with them individually to create a plan of study and strategy for future career options that ensures their success.
Dr. van Oostrom will be recognized at a reception hosted by the President’s Office at the former President’s House on Monday, April 6th.
