Innovation was in the spotlight last week as UF Innovate | Tech Licensing celebrated the top six innovations of 2025 at its annual Standing InnOvation event. Four of the recognized technologies came from faculty researchers in the UF Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering.

Congratulations to Gopal Agarwal, Ph.D., postdoctoral associate in the Schmidt Lab, on receiving the 2025 Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society – Americas Chapter (TERMIS-AM) Outstanding Postdoctoral Fellow Award, a distinction given to only one postdoc annually.

Kyle D. Allen, Ph.D., professor in the J. Crayton Pruitt Family Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Florida, has been named the 2026 recipient of the Adele L. Boskey, Ph.D., Award by the Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS). This prestigious recognition honors mid-career members who demonstrate outstanding and sustained commitment to mentorship while maintaining an impactful and innovative research program.

Kaitlin Southern, Ph.D. candidate in the Allen Lab and the Costello Lab, received a National Institutes of Health (NIH) Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Predoctoral Fellowship (Parent F31) for her project titled Identifying Translational Measures of Osteoarthritic Pain Between Preclinical Models and Patients.

Julia Withrow, Ph.D. candidate in the Bolch Lab, received a National Institutes of Health (NIH) Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Predoctoral Fellowship (Parent F31) for her project titled Development of Models of Comprehensive Blood and Lymphatic Systems for Radiation Dosimetry.

Dr. Lee Murfee and Dr. Parisa Rashidi have been named 2025 Fellows of the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES).

Ana Maria Porras, Ph.D., assistant professor in the J. Crayton Pruitt Family Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Florida, has been selected as a 2025 Rising Star (Science) by the Academy of Science, Engineering and Medicine of Florida (ASEMFL).
