Congratulations to Dr. Hans van Oostrom who has been selected to receive the College of Engineering Faculty Advisor/Mentor of the Year Award for 2014/2015!
This award is based on an extensive review of an application packet containing letters of recommendation from past students and his peers, an analysis of the volume of advising and a description of Dr. van Oostrom’s innovations in advising.
Dr. van Oostrom was fundamental to onboarding the initial class of undergraduate students in the department and setting up an advising structure from scratch. The BME undergraduate program, which started in 2012, has quickly grown to 325 students. Dr. van Oostrom has also worked to personalize the advising experience for our students – he seeks to understand their needs and interests, and works with them individually to create a plan of study and strategy for future career options that ensures their success.
College of Engineering award winners are also submitted to the Office of the Associate Provost for Academic and Faculty Affairs for consideration for the university-wide Faculty Advisor/Mentor of the Year Award. Good luck, Dr. van Oostrom!
