The Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) and IEEE Engineering in Medicine & Biology Society (EMBS) jointly held a “Night with Professionals” on April 10th in the BMS Atrium. The event turned out to be a huge success with over 30 students in attendance, ranging from undergraduate freshman to post-doctoral fellows. Students had the opportunity to learn about the difference between academic and industry internships, the best ways to find internship positions, the skills and tools industry is looking for in new hires, and how to build a competitive resume. Local biotechnology companies including Exactech and Nanotherapeutics provided tips to students on how to enhance their chances of getting an industry internship and shared their experiences working in industry.
Special thanks to Dr. James Schumacher, the UF Career Resource Center (Cara Nutt), Exactech (Ryan Loftus, Nicholas Stroud), Nanotherapeutics (Dr. Ron Cobb), the BME department, and BMES and EMBS officers for making the event a success. We’re sure the connections made between participants will continue to foster and strengthen students and BME program.
